Dental Implants & Dentures at
The Priory Dental Practice Harborne - Harborne & Edgbaston

Do you find it difficult to speak, chew food or smile with confidence? We have very quickly come from a time when the only option was to replace teeth with poorly fitting dentures. Well, not anymore.

Dental implants provide a long-lasting solution to missing teeth, and as they are firmly anchored into the jawbone they feel, work and look just like a real tooth. Dental implants can replace one or more missing teeth and securely hold dentures and bridges in place.

Single Dental Implant

A single implant is needed to replace an individual missing tooth. The implant is placed in the jawbone, in the gap that your own tooth has left. We will then add the crown and that single implant will blend in perfectly, and function well with the rest of your teeth.

Multiple Dental Implants

Examine your teeth, their shape, alignment, colour, position and your facial appearance. If you have lost several teeth there are typically two solutions: separate dental crowns attached to dental implants or a dental bridge attached to 2 or more dental implants.

If you are missing several teeth, you may not need as many implants as you think. Not every missing tooth needs to have an implant beneath it. For example, we can fit a bridge to a single implant on which two or more crowns are used to replace adjoining teeth.

Implant Retained Dentures

Some people struggle wearing dentures, they find the denture can become loose and move about, causing difficulty in eating and speaking. If this sounds familiar, dental implants can be placed in order to secure your denture into position, the number of implants needed will depend on your individual circumstances.

Dental Implant FAQ's
How long does dental implant treatment take?

For routine cases, from the time of implant insertion to the time of placing the first tooth, treatment times can vary between 6 weeks and 6 months. Good solid bone will reduce treatment time, whilst more time and care must be taken with poor bone, which can therefore extend treatment times.

How long will a dental implant last?

If looked after correctly, dental implants will last for many decades. Our dental implant system has proved to last a lifetime, achieving fantastic results for all of our patients.

How much do dental implants cost?

There isn’t a standard answer to how much implants will cost because the work required is tailored to your needs. Prices vary depending on how many implants you need and whether you need any treatment prior to placement (such as a bone graft). We understand that the price of dental implants can be daunting. For this reason we have a number of payment options available.

How do I look after my dental implants?

For most dental implant-supported teeth you will be able to clean around each supporting dental implant by brushing and flossing in just the same way that you would around your own teeth. In some areas we recommend flossing, inter dental toothbrushes and other cleaning aids to maintain excellent oral hygiene. For the first few months after the dental implants are placed, your dentist may ask to see you more frequently. However, once your dentist is satisfied your treatment is performing as planned, ongoing care will be similar to patients with natural teeth.

Are dental implants for me?

The most important visit is the initial consultation where our implantologist will go through a series of questions regarding your previous dental and medical histories. This will help to determine if dental implants are the best option for you.

If you are in good general health, dental implants are likely to be a suitable option for the replacement of your missing teeth. However, habits such as heavy drinking and smoking can compromise the initial healing time and have a detrimental effect on the long-term health of gum and bone surrounding each implant.
